Red House Wool Studio

~Welcome~
My name is Cathy Greschner. I live in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. I have a home studio where I design patterns primarily for primitive rug hooking. I enjoy working with wool as my medium.   The wares I plan to offer here include my hand hooked rugs, rug hooking patterns, penny rugs, pin cushions, wool applique, and primitive sewing necessaries.  I enjoy teaching rug hooking classes locally and writing for my blog called Orange Sink.  I hope you will stop by and visit me there too. You can find my rug hooking patterns on my selling blog called Red House Wool Studio Thank-you so very much for buying hand made from our small businesses who are the threads that keep American commerce strong!

Welcome to the May 2013 Update!

( Calico Bird with Strawberries Pin Cushion~ $39.95   includes postage in the USA)

My first item that I'm pleased to offer this month is a sweet Calico Bird with Strawberries Pin Cushion!
The base of the pin cushion is made from an old white antique coverlet piece that has aged to a nice creamy white.
I've used a newer navy and tan calico fabric from my stash for the bird and a bit of red and sage green wool for the strawberries.
The bird has button eyes and applied wings.  The entire piece is stuffed nice and firm with wool.
I've included a few of my hand-dyed quilting pins as well.

This is a close-up photo of the Strawberries and notice too the texture of the antique coverlet for the pin cushion base.
The entire piece measures about 5 1/2 inches tall.
A nice size to use or add to your collection of pin cushions or great for the Strawberry collectors out there.

And speaking of Strawberries!  My next offering is for a set of SIX Plump and Wooley Strawberry bowl fillers for your Spring and Summer decorating!
I've used a fun red textured wool to make these that looks just like real strawberries!
The tops are a green hand-dyed wool and I've hand cut each one to look like the tops of the real thing also!
They measure about 3 1/2 inches long!

So fun in your wooden bowls or baskets!

( Set of Six Wooley Strawberry Bowl Fillers~$32.00 includes postage in USA) ( bowl not included)

My last item this month was fun to create and I love that it's useful as well as decorative!
I've hand sewn this notebook cover to fit a 9 3/4 by 7 1/2 inch composition notebook.  I hand appliqued the flower using wool and a vintage scrap of pink with red dots calico. The leaves and heart are green hand-dyed wool. The flower pot is a dark plaid cotton fabric.

Inside the front cover I've sewn a nice deep pocket in a stripe fabric for your pencils, ruler, or maybe some notes or letters you need to keep handy.  I love keeping my garden notes in one of these. The nice thing too is you can add a new notebook when the first one gets full!

( Appliqued Flower Notebook Cover ( composition notebook is included)~ $18.95 plus 2.75 postage in USA)
